It’s simple! The only rules we have are:
* Buy a car (or motorbike) for 500 Euro or up!
* Dress to care less; pimp your car and get yourself ready in style.
* Don’t forget to bring your BBQ!
STARTING DATE 2016
Departure is planned on August 5th, 2016. You’ll drive to Montenegro, an undiscovered Balkan country next to Servia and Bosnia/Herzegovina. After the finish party you are free to drive back home in a straight line or drive onwards by yourself. Follow the online sign up procedure step-by-step. It’s easy!
HOW MANY DAYS IS THE TRIP?
Driving takes 9 days only and then there will be a great party!
HOW MANY KILOMETERS IS THE TRIP?
It’s about 3000 kilometers. One way. The return trip can be done in a few days.
CAN WE SWAP TEAM MEMBERS AFTER REGISTRATION?
Participation is arranged per person. But if your grandmother suddenly brakes her hip and you can’t join, we feel your loss and see what we can do…
WHY SHOULD I PARTICIPATE?
This is an epic adventure. Join in to create some great pub stories of how you lifted that cow up with six people or how you became friends with a drunk Albanian border guard. Trips that’ll make you go YEAH! Forget all-inclusive resorts and organized tours; The Big Chill is a life-changer. That’s why!
There are a few things that are important:
* Get yourself a unique banger car (put some creativity into pimping your team)
* Own a passport (make sure it is valid too..)
* Register as a participant with you and your buddies via this link.
* Bring along a BBQ (big portions of meat are widely available)
* Install speakers (lots of Watts!)
WHAT ELSE MIGHT BE HANDY?
No obligations, but this might come in handy:
* Camping gear (pitch your tent on a camp site or in the wild)
* Flip-flops (and other summer gear!)
The Big Chill is all about enjoying the experience of venturing eastward. Don’t go wild on expensive 4×4’s, a two wheel drive is the most fun anyway. Go convertible and enjoy the sun. Don’t worry about the car, duct tape in the trunk and a spare tire, that’ll keep you going.
PIMP YOUR RIDE
Pimp your car, make it look ridiculously cool, or just plain ridiculous. Use speakers, paint, stickers, gadgets; whatever you can get your hands on to create a funky ride. Be creative!
DO I NEED TO HAVE A CAR ALREADY UPON REGISTRATION?
No! After securing your spot, you can also start shopping around. But it might to good to have one in mind. Don’t forget to send your car details and pictures to us.
HOW MANY PEOPLE CAN FIT IN ONE TEAM/CAR?
As much as you can fit in a car. However, it might be smart to go in teams of max. three people. Most people go in teams of two. Entrance fee is per person.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN MY CAR BREAKS DOWN DURING THE TRIP?
Problems on the road? In the Roadbook you receive on departure there are a lot of tips and hints about this topic. But, it might well happen that you make such a mess, that we should solve it together… In general; it’s best to solve it with other participants and locals. This is in line with the ‘unsupported’ character of the Big Chill.
INSURING YOUR CAR
The car you are taking should be insured! It might be smart to check whether your car insurance covers all countries in Europe. It’s possible that Albania isn’t listed on your insurance papers. You can buy an insurance for Albania at the border. Montenegro should already be included on your green insurance card. When getting your insurance organized; make sure not to speak of a rally (which this is not). We don’t do time challenges and it isn’t about speed… it’s pretty much making sure you and your car will arrive in one piece…
Make sure that your car is registered to one of the participants’ names. This is how you make sure you don’t get into trouble at border crossings. Is the car registered to a company, make sure you get a written authorisation in different languages from the company that owns the car, allowing all drivers to get behind the steering wheel.
INTERNATIONAL DRIVERS LICENCE
Might come in handy during a corrupt border post; formally it is necessary – but the same goes for a fire extinguisher.
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE FINISH LINE?
After finishing it is time to party at the pool side! Dress code to follow!
I’M NOT DONE AFTER MONTENEGRO. NOW WHAT?
That’s cool, continue your ride after the party. No one is stopping you – but that part of the trip will be for your own expenses. Great to have had you with us!
Make sure you submit the correct car details once you have bought a car!
You should keep a couple spots open on your car for stickers of the organization. This is on your front doors and right in front on the hood of your car. All teams will receive a ‘Challenge pack’ at home at least one week before departure with stickers or receive them at the start.
Keen on sleeping in a villa every evening? Forget it; The Big Chill is all about adventure, challenges on the road, music, fun and good-old team spirit. Be ready for an epic journey, slushing through mud and wiping your face with your sweater. Go camp, dude!
WHAT DO YOU MEAN WITH ‘UNSUPPORTED’ CHALLENGE?
It’s already in the word; you are responsible for completing your own trip. You’ll be driving at your own risk, without support of the Big Chill organization. Doesn’t mean we’re not there for you; prior to departure we help you out with briefings, tips, hints and a cool starting event. Practical questions? Let us know! On departure day, you will receive a Roadbook, with comprehensive information and a well tailored route. During the trip you can call us 24/7, only if necessary. Driving difficult tracks? Team up, so you can help each other out of the mess you created – and to boost fun.
Participating will set you back €480 euro per person.
The following is included in the registration fee:
* The organization of the Big Chill
* Creating a ‘Challenge Pack’ with T-shirt and official Big Chill stickers)
* Departure event
* Finish party in Montenegro
* Support by telephone 24/7 during the trip
* Roadbook with a lot of helpful information (handed out at departure)
* Official The Big Chill stickers, T-shirt
WHAT ARE OTHER EXPENSES I SHOULD KEEP IN MIND?
Not included in the participation fee is:
* A unique car (from 500 euro and up)
* Accommodation (we’ll go for budget-friendly ho(s)tels and campsites and put this in your Roadbook)
* BBQ Meat (or use road kill if it is too expensive)
* Car insurance
ATMs ON ROUTE
Teams usually carry small amounts of cash. ATMs are plenty – but might require a little search finding one that works from country to country – throughout the route. But, there might be places where they don’t work, so it is smart to have some back-up cash. Leave your private savings at home though, you won’t need that much! Don’t bet on one horse; bring some different payment options but don’t carry a briefcase with cash.
Besides the barren trip, part of the fun is the preparation. Pimp your ride, make it look ridiculously cool, or just plain ridiculous. Use speakers, paint, stickers, gadgets; whatever you can get your hands on to create a funky ride. Be creative! On the day of departure, a small yet festive event will be held for you and spectators.
WHAT IS THE GEAR I RECEIVE?
Prior to departure you will receive Challenge gear – like stickers, shirts and perhaps even damn cool flip-flops.
Why are you participating? Because cool, like minded people join in on the trip and you’ll drive in small groups, livin’ da vida loca together, on the road.
At departure you will receive a Roadbook. It will give you insights into possible routes, formalities, contacts and other stuff on the road. The Roadbook covers all contacts from embassies and consulates, phone numbers of other Challengers and the organization – just in case.
DO WE NEED TO DO WHAT THE ROADBOOK SAYS?
No! Create an adventure, drive your own challenge. The Roadbook suggests places to stay, routes to take – but if you want to build a sandcastle on the Albanian beach… no one is going to stop you. It’s your trip, take it by the balls. We suggest spots to sleep so you can meet up with your buddies at the end of the day for chill time or a party.
At the start you will receive your Roadbook. It shows official meet-up spots throughout the trip. These spots are meant to ease a border crossing (when you cross it all together) or to drag you to a party.
Opt for a cool Facebook page. Dress it up, get some likes – great to illustrate your commitment to potential sponsors and for family and friends to follow your adventures. Place experiences throughout the journey… well, we don’t need to tell you how that works. Make sure you like our page; The Big Chill (with your page account too). We’ll share the best ones with the community. Become a legend!
HOW ABOUT MEDIA?
The organization finds its way to the media through press releases and existing contacts. Did someone from the (inter)national media approach you? Please contact the organization in advance to confirm. If you have certain ideas to draw the attention of media: contact us to discuss! We love to get your team in the spotlights, but when it comes to movie productions, TV series and news reports, we have to call the shots… Do you have the opportunity to do a local/regional item in the media; go for it!
Register via THIS link, fill out your details and wire the participation fee. Once we have received your registration, we will notify you to validate your registration. Easy does it…
Yeah! We´ll party. You´ll find out more while on the road. Drinks are already in the fridge.
